Five international consortia have bid for Belgium's second mobile telephone network according to the Belgian Institute of Postal and Telecommunications Services. BIPT said the consortia included Coditel, lead by utility holding firm, Tractebal, and its British partner Voadaphone, and another, Mobilis, lead by US telecommunications firm BellSouth and the Belgian Gevaert group.
The Government is expected to announce the winner by the end of July. Belgium's mobile phone market is currently a monopoly of state telephone company Belgacom.
