ITV staff have good reason to strike while they still can

Outlook ITV has been making impressive profits of late and more than holding its own in a tough media market. It’s just that the profits are not being shared with the people who produced them: they have been offered a pay rise of just 2 per cent. Hence the strike by the Bectu and NUJ unions. Tactically, this is a wise move; the Government is planning new union laws that are going to make this sort of action extremely difficult to pull off in future.

Morally, the action is hard to argue with given that Adam Crozier, the chief executive, will take the credit and enjoy a huge reward for ITV’s revival – despite the huge debt he owes to those among the 2 per cent protesters.
