PLOP, a document from the Cabinet Office lands on my desk. It is The Annual Review of Government Funded Research & Development.
Leafing through I stop at page 12 and note the following: 'Frascati R&D: R&D expenditure is also classified into the types of research and development activity as defined the Frascati manual . . . In 1991-2 26.7 per cent of total R&D expenditure was classified as basic.' And I had always thought Frascati was a wine.
