Around the World's Markets: New York

THE NASDAQ index slumped for a third day after Amazon.com forecast a widening deficit, disappointing investors who expected the online retailer to start making money sooner. The Nasdaq dropped 22.40, or 0.9 per cent, to 2,527.97.

Oil, metals and financial companies, considered the cheapest stocks in the market, led the Dow Jones to its fifth record in seven sessions. It gained 32.93, or 0.3 per cent, to 10,878.38.
