LEADING STOCKS closed lower following losses in Tokyo and other Asian markets but trading was thin with investors sidelined ahead of today's US unemployment data.

The Hang Seng ended off 176.63 points after hitting a day low of 13,256.52 points. Talks that hedge funds might launch an attack against Asian currencies triggered some selling of Hong Kong stocks. The baht was lower against the dollar after a Thai newspaper said the Tiger Fund launched an attack on the baht in the Hong Kong market on Wednesday.
