Russia's envoy Viktor Chernomyrdin arrived in Helsinki for talks with Finland's President, Martti Ahtisaari, who was a UN adviser on the former Yugoslavia during the Bosnia conflict.

The UN refugee agency, UNHCR, said it had been able to persuade very few Kosovo refugees to move from the unsafe border area in northern Albania.

A Swiss-Greek-Russian convoy of five trucks carrying food and medicine for war victims arrived in Pristina, Kosovo, around noon.

Macedonia said more than 300 companies in Macedonia had registered $680m (pounds 417m) of damage due to Nato strikes in Yugoslavia. Hardest hit were transport companies and agricultural firms who could no longer export their produce.

Two Kosovo men who arrived as refugees at Fort Dix, New Jersey, last week are in jail in Pennsylvania after using fake names to enter the United States. The pair, aged 23 and 24, were among the second group of ethnic Albanians flown to McGuire Air Force Base last Friday. Immigration officials at nearby Fort Dix said their names did not match identity photos taken by refugee officials in Macedonia.
