Aid workers murdered in Bosnia
THREE ITALIAN aid workers were shot dead by gunmen wearing Bosnian army uniforms with Muslim insignia, UN military sources said yesterday.
They said five civilians delivering food were halted on Saturday by about 30 armed men between Novi Travnik and Gornji Vakuf in central Bosnia. The gunmen pulled the Italians from their vehicles, robbed them and led them away before opening fire. The two who escaped were found yesterday in Grnica.
The Italian Foreign Ministry denounced the killings, saying: 'It is for cases like these that the United Nations has instituted a war crimes court in the ex-Yugoslavia.'
About 50 Croat fighters stopped a British convoy yesterday morning near where the Italians were ambushed. The Croats demanded medical assistance and placed a grenade on the bonnet of one vehicle and pointed a weapon at one driver.
Earlier, near Gornji Vakuf, a British Warrior was damaged by an anti- tank mine. The crew was not injured, but a recovery vehicle sent to retrieve the armoured vehicle was damaged by another mine.
