1948: what could the Women's Institute be doing but producing jam? A pair of members sample the wares at the Home Produce Exhibition in London. The WI was established in Canada in 1897, catering largely for women in rural districts. It arrived in Anglesey in 1915 and has grown to almost 9,000 WIs and 350,000 members.

1999: the clothes are off, but the jam is still there. After all the work that the WI has done to shed its "jam and Jerusalem" image, have the women of Rylstone and District WI set back the clock with their mischievous strip for a charity calendar? The calendar - pounds 5 a time - sold its original 3,000 print run in three days. Now they're printing 5,000 more.
