Meghan Markle may always look radiant - but according to her make-up artist, the look isn't created with highlighter.

To create dewy, glowing skin, Daniel Martin, Markle’s makeup artist and the creative colour consultant for Honest Beauty, says all you need is one product - and it only costs £3.85 ($5).

Speaking to E! News, Martin revealed that it is possible to achieve his natural makeup looks by highlighting with skincare products alone - mainly Aquaphor.

“A lot of my highlighting is done with skincare,” he said. “Before highlighters, you would do highlighting with Aquaphor. Aquaphor will give you that same texture, especially in a photo (when applied) on the high points of the face.”

Aquaphor, a thick lotion you can find in drugstores, is a healing ointment made of petrolatum, panthenol and glycerin that protects and smoothes dry skin.

When used on the areas of the face where you would use highlighter, the unscented ointment can mimic the glistening effects of makeup.

The lotion also has the added benefit of being good for the skin - adding moisture, hydration and shine.

However, Aquaphor isn’t Martin’s only secret highlighting technique - when an actual highlighter is necessary to get a look to really pop, the Dior brand ambassador relies on a Dior highlighting palette and lays it down with the Honest Beauty Balm.

“It intensifies the highlight, but because of the texture of the magic balm it gives you that luminosity like you just applied moisturiser,” he said.

Despite his expertise on getting cheekbones to glisten and glow, Martin kept Meghan Markle’s makeup highlighter-free for her wedding day - as he wanted to avoid any looks that were too trendy.

“The last thing you want [is] to look at your wedding pictures and go, ‘Remember when highlighting was the rage?’ At the end of the day, you want to look like your best self,” he previously told InStyle.
