Another precision export from Japan: perfectly formed, matchless sound quality, magnificent to behold. . . No, this is not some new, state-of-the-art stereo, but a 14-strong troupe of percussionists. Described as "mesmerising" by the Evening Standard during their last London appearance in 1996, the Kodo Drummers (right) have been raising roofs around the world with their unique synthesis of sound, theatre and choreography. Repetitiveness is not an issue: variety in tone, texture and rhythm is created by a range of drums, from the traditional taiko of rural Japan to a staggering 1000lb giant drum. And further interest comes courtesy of the renowned British percussionist Evelyn Glennie, in a guest appearance with the Kodo Drummers on Wednesday.

"Physical perfection beat out as loudly as the drums," according to The Financial Times. Well, who could ask for more?
