Oilseed rape flowers rarely cause asthma, despite often being blamed for allergic attacks in people living where the crop is grown, say researchers. In a study of 37 asthma sufferers they found those who believed their symptoms were triggered during the rape flowering season were not usually allergic to rape pollen. Their asthma may have been caused by atmospheric chemicals and other allergens, the researchers say in Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
