Health Update: Sweet dreams

OUR love of sugar is frowned upon, but begins early. Canadian researchers have found that sucking a finger dipped in sugared water pacifies newborn babies almost immediately. In a study of 33 newborns, published in Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology, they found that 70 per cent of infants given sucrose solution went quiet compared with 10 per cent of those who had received only water.
