One of the most practical (and cultish) accessories toted around Newquay last week was the Animal watchstrap. Animal was started in Bournemouth eight years ago by three British surfers who needed useful accessories to surf in. Their one-piece velcro watch-strap was designed specifically to prevent watch loss during active water sports and comes in a range of bright fabrics, leather and buckskin. They cost between pounds 5 and pounds 8, can be attached to any shock- and water- proof watch (Animal also do watches), are totally adjustable and chlorine- and UV-resistant, too.

Animal: 01929 556 500.
