If everything goes according to the plans, at 3.28pm next Tuesday, India’s first mission to Mars will fire off from Sriharitkota, a small island off India’s eastern coast.
The £62m, unmanned “Mangalyaan” orbiter mission will then circle Earth, gradually picking up speed until booster rockets are fired, setting the craft on a 300-day journey to Mars. It is due to arrive in the orbit of the Red planet on 21 September next year.
