Guitar Hero game is axed

Guitar Hero, the series of cult games that allowed even the most musically-challenged to play at being a rock star, has been axed. Eric Hirshberg, chief executive of the company that made it, Activision Publishing, said: "We simply cannot make these games profitable based on current economics."

Michael French, editor-in-chief of the gaming magazine MCV, believes that the decision is based on a combination of the high cost of purchasing rights to bands' music and image and interest in the genre "reaching saturation".
