The White House posted a meme depicting Donald Trump as Superman, seemingly to capitalise on the buzz surrounding a new film about the DC Comics character.
The image showed Trump in Superman's iconic costume, accompanied by the caption "THE SYMBOL OF HOPE. TRUTH. JUSTICE. THE AMERICAN WAY. SUPERMAN TRUMP."
The post was met with widespread mockery and criticism on social media, with California Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia remarking that Trump is "literally Lex Luthor."
Commentators criticised the perceived normalisation of such content for Trump, with one suggesting the official White House account had become a "slop engagement farm."
This incident follows Trump's past comparisons of himself to various historical and religious figures, and similar criticism faced by the Biden administration for its "Dark Brandon" meme.
