Warning issued over ‘attack squirrel’ which has sent several to ER
Posters have been put up warning of the ‘attack squirrel’
Residents in San Rafael, a San Francisco Bay Area city, are on high alert following a series of aggressive squirrel attacks.
At least two women, Joan Heblack and Isabel Campoy, required emergency medical treatment after being attacked.
Heblack described a squirrel clamping onto her leg, while Campoy reported one launching itself at her face before landing on her arm, leaving it bloodied.
The community has posted flyers warning others of a “very mean squirrel” in the area.
Marin Humane said that such behaviour is often due to people feeding the animals, confirming squirrels are not vectors for rabies, and said it will coordinate removal if attacks recur.
