Why Prince Harry’s charity is under investigation

Prince Harry speaks about his mother, Diana, at a Sentebale event
  • The Charity Commission is investigating Sentebale, a charity co-founded by Prince Harry in memory of his mother Princess Diana, following “concerns raised” amid a boardroom dispute.
  • The investigation will assess the charity's and its trustees' compliance with legal duties and responsibilities. The Duke of Sussex says he hopes it will “unveil the truth”.
  • It follows Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho's resignation as patrons due to an irreparable breakdown in the relationship between trustees and the chairwoman, Sophie Chandauka.
  • The dispute reportedly stemmed from a decision to focus fundraising efforts on Africa, leading to several trustees resigning.
  • Ms Chandauka has made allegations of poor governance, bullying, and harassment within the charity, while sources close to the former trustees and patrons have dismissed her claims.
