Five killed in New York tour bus crash identified

Multiple fatalities, including children, after tourist bus carrying 52 crashes in upstate New York
  • Five individuals have been identified as fatalities following a tour bus crash on Interstate 90 near Pembroke, New York, on Friday afternoon.
  • The deceased include Xie Hongzhuo, 22, of Beijing, China; Zhang Xiaolan, 55, of Jersey City; Jian Mingli, 56, also of Jersey City; Pinki Changrani, 60, of East Brunswick, New Jersey; and Shankar Kumar Jha, 65, of Madhu Bani, India.
  • The bus, carrying 54 adults and children, was returning to New York City from Niagara Falls when it overturned, with some passengers ejected or pinned.
  • Investigators believe the crash was caused by the male driver becoming distracted, losing control, and over-correcting, ruling out mechanical failure or impairment.
  • At least 30 people were hospitalised across four regional facilities with injuries ranging from minor to critical, and most passengers were not wearing seatbelts.
