Buildings evacuated as strong earthquake hits Cyprus

  • A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck Cyprus on Wednesday morning.
  • The tremor occurred at approximately 11.32am local time (9.32m GMT).
  • Its epicentre was located 20 kilometres northeast of Paphos, at a depth of 15 kilometres.
  • Tremors from the earthquake were felt across the region, extending as far as Lebanon and parts of Israel.
  • Public buildings in the Paphos district were briefly evacuated, though no immediate damage has been reported.
