Trump threatens ‘war’ on Chicago as thousands protest federal crackdown

The Department of Homeland Security has initiated “Operation Midway Blitz” in Chicago, stating its aim is to target individuals described as “criminal illegal aliens” due to Illinois's sanctuary policies.
The operation is reportedly launched in honor of Katie Abraham, a victim of a fatal hit-and-run allegedly caused by an undocumented individual, Julio Cucul-Bol.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have strongly criticized the crackdown, accusing the administration of political motivations and rejecting the necessity of such an intervention, including the potential deployment of the National Guard.
Donald Trump made controversial social media posts about Chicago, including an AI-generated image and a “Department of WAR” reference, which he later clarified, stating his intention to “clean up our cities.”
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have already commenced arrests, with 300 federal agents utilizing North Chicago's Naval Station Great Lakes as a logistical hub for the operation.
