  • Researchers have developed the first screening test to identify dogs potentially at risk of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
  • The test classifies dogs as "at-risk" if they display symptoms such as an inability to focus, restlessness, impulsive actions, and difficulty performing tasks.
  • Out of nearly 1,900 dogs tested in Hungary, 79 met the criteria, a prevalence rate comparable to ADHD in adult humans.
  • Certain breeds like the German Shepherd and Border Collie, as well as those that get insufficient exercise or attention, are at increased risk.
  • While the screening test can help identify at-risk dogs for potential treatment, researchers caution it is not a standalone diagnostic tool and requires further expert consultation.
