Researchers have developed the first screening test to identify dogs potentially at risk of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
The test classifies dogs as "at-risk" if they display symptoms such as an inability to focus, restlessness, impulsive actions, and difficulty performing tasks.
Out of nearly 1,900 dogs tested in Hungary, 79 met the criteria, a prevalence rate comparable to ADHD in adult humans.
Certain breeds like the German Shepherd and Border Collie, as well as those that get insufficient exercise or attention, are at increased risk.
While the screening test can help identify at-risk dogs for potential treatment, researchers caution it is not a standalone diagnostic tool and requires further expert consultation.
