Award-winning playwright Sir Tom Stoppard dies aged 88
Award-winning playwright Sir Tom Stoppard has died peacefully at his Dorset home at the age of 88, surrounded by his family.
Stoppard was celebrated for iconic works such as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Arcadia, and co-wrote the Oscar-winning filmShakespeare in Love.
Throughout his career, he garnered three Olivier Awards, five Tonys, and an Oscar, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997 for his contributions to theatre.
King Charles led tributes, describing Stoppard as "one of our greatest writers", while Sir Mick Jagger praised him as his "favourite playwright".
Born in Czechoslovakia, Stoppard fled Nazi occupation and his semi-autobiographical play Leopoldstadt earned him an Olivier and four Tony Awards.
