From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Daily Show headed down to Trump rallies in swing states Ohio and Wisconsin this week to find out ‘what his supporters know that the rest of us don’t’, and boy did they uncover some staggering truths.

According to one attendee, Hillary Clinton doesn’t actually have pneumonia but possible Parkinson’s, MS or even Aids. “Probably from her husband messing around with that Magic Johnson,” one ardent Trump fan posited.

Other conspiracy theories included Barack Obama being a “Muslim terrorist” and having “a big part in 9/11”.

There’s also a pervasive belief that Hillary has a double that she uses for public events.

The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper decided to show attendees identical photos of her, and they still managed to find one to be her double.

“That little thing on her cheek is very obvious…the scarring down on her throat is different,” one said.

“But they look a ton alike, right?!” Klepper pleaded.

“This one looks a little bit younger,” the man insisted.

Media coverage of Trump was also discussed, with a younger supporter claiming that it under-represents African American Trump voters. Looking around at the rally however, there wasn’t a black face in sight.
