Ivanka Trump under fire after using '60 Minutes’ appearance to promote her fashion line

Donald Trump, as you are likely aware, ran a rather controversial campaign to become President of the United States, declaring he would build a wall around the country's border and demolish Obamacare.

Since being elected, the President-elect has seemingly cooled down, saying during his first interview for CBS's 60 Minutes certain areas of the wall may actually be made of fence.

Following the controversial interview, which also featured numerous members of Trump’s family, many journalists around the US received a “style alert” from Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry, the First Daughter-elect’s jewellery range.

As noted by Deadline, the alert detailed how Ivanka wore “her favourite bangle from the Metropolis Collection” which costs $10,800 (or $8,800 for the ‘bargain-basement’ version).

Following her attempt to use a high-profile national telecast to sell goods, Trump came under fire on Twitter, one social media user Tweeting: “Starting in January, the nuclear codes will be stored in this stylish Ivanka Trump tote, available on Zappos for just $295.”

Using presidential exposure to sell branded goods has been done before: infamously, Jimmy Carter’s brother Billy Carter allowed his name to be used to sell Billy Beer.

Carter endorsed the beer, each can having been printed with the following statement written upon it: “Brewed expressly for and with the personal approval of one of AMERICA's all-time Great Beer Drinkers—Billy Carter. I had this beer brewed up just for me. I think it's the best I ever tasted. And I've tasted a lot. I think you'll like it, too.”

Cans of Billy Beer soon became a collectible with The Simpsons poking fun at Carter’s brew in an episode (After drinking the beer, Homer says: "We elected the wrong Carter”).
