I'm A Celebrity 2014: Jungle security stepped up after murder and 'suspicious death' close to camp

The contestants on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! might be too busy arguing with each other to notice, but security around the show has been stepped up as police hunt a murderer in the area.

Guards have been put on high alert after a local man, Mark Spencer, 37, was bludgeoned to death with a tennis racquet on the patio of his home in Coomer, just five miles away from the I’m A Celebrity encampment.

The murder took place on 1 October and New South Wales police have confirmed that they are no closer to finding his killer more than seven weeks on.

Two weeks ago police published CCTV footage of a 2008 or 2009 Ford Falcon sedan car spotted near to the victim’s home on the night he was killed.

“The investigation into this case continues,” a police spokesman said.

In an unrelated incident a woman was found dead in "suspicious circumstances" just ten minutes away from where the I’m A Celebrity contestants are staying.

The body of Lynette Jones, 52, was found in a street of the neighbouring town of Murwillumbah two weeks ago.

Her death has been described as “suspicious” by police who are awaiting the results of a coroner’s report.

An ITV spokesman said safety of the celebrities was “a priority”, adding: "We have a security team on site. The safety and security of our celebrities and crew is of the utmost importance."

Last night’s episode of the ITV show included a heated argument between former Playboy bunny Kendra Wilkinson and ex-MP Edwina Currie.

Currie disagreed with Wilkinson's statement "You should never live your life for other people, ever".

The two exchanged words with Wilkinson telling Currie to "shut the f*** up".
