Bake Off’s Laura calls for ‘kindness’ following Hermine’s shock elimination: ‘I am a real person with feelings’

‘It’s ok to be sad your favourite person didn’t go through, but please remember it’s not my fault,’ Laura tweeted

Hermine eliminated from Bake Off series 4

The Great British Bake Off’s Laura has called on fans of the show to be “kind” following Tuesday night’s (17 November) show.

This week’s semi-final caused quite a stir among Bake Off viewers, after fan favourite Hermine was eliminated from the show ahead of the final, despite being named Star Baker during the previous two episodes.

While Hermine struggled in her Pâtisserie Week signature and showstopper – the latter of which judge Prue Leith said was a “failure” by her standards – a number of viewers claimed that Laura should have left the show after placing last in the technical.

In response to the messages, Laura shared a heartfelt message to Twitter on Wednesday (18 November) morning as she urged viewers not to blame her for Hermine’s elimination.

“It’s ok to be sad your favourite person didn’t go through, but please remember it’s not my fault,” she tweeted.

“I don’t make the decisions. GBBO is all about kindness and I haven’t seen much of that on here.”

She continued: “It’s easy to sit there on your sofa and judge. But I am a real person with feelings. Please take a moment to consider your words before you judge someone you’ve never met and whose food you’ve never tasted.”

A number of former Bake Off contestants also rushed to Laura’s defence, with series 10’s Michael tweeting: “REMEMBER you can show solidarity with your fave going home WITHOUT slagging off the others.”

Series 10’s Priya also tweeted: “Remember folks, unless you tasted the bakes through a clever scratch n sniff tv, or were actually IN the tent, you can’t ‘know’. You watched an edited version of almost 12hrs of baking, it’s bloody hard work.

“Be nice. Be kind. It’s cake.”

Laura will be joined in next week’s Bake Off final by Peter and Dave.

The Great British Bake Off final airs on Tuesday 24 November at 8pm on Channel 4.
