Winners have been announced for the Underwater Photographer of the Year 2019.

Judges have selected the best pictures across 13 categories including portraiture, animal behaviour and marine conservation.

The Independent has collected the best images from the competition in the gallery above.

The panel has released a yearbook containing all of the images from the competition along with information about underwater photography that is available to view for free here.
