Album: Twisted Tongue, Twisted Tongue, (Acid Jazz)

Reviewed

Feed five decades of black American music into a supercomputer, press "random", and you've got Twisted Tongue.

The debut from Dave Jay (ex-Soul Hooligan) and Mark Dalton – with a cast of guest vocalists – kicks off in style: opener "You Want That Soul" takes a pinch of the Funkadelic 1970s, a dash of the Minneapolitan 1980s and lays it over a nagging bassline. It's followed by the driving Tamla faux-town beat of "Got a Really Good Thing". This excellent record ought to be the next stop for Mark Ronson's bored former fans.
