Album: The Albion Band, The Vice of the People (Powered Flight Music)

The Vice of the People represents a passing of the folk-rock baton to another generation, Ashley Hutchings' son Blair Dunlop taking the reins and, with a coterie of young players, injecting youthful fire into the band's trad-folk stylings.

Katriona Gilmore's songs are particularly impressive, "Coalville" sketching a youngster's attempt to "escape my family tree", and the a cappella "A Quarter Hour of Fame" taking a tilt at this most modern of vices. The band remains politically steadfast: Gavin Davenport's "Thieves Song" tackles wealth addiction, and "How Many Miles to Babylon?" the plight of troops abroad, while "Wake a Little Wiser" recommends we "leave our tinpot idols to rust out in the rain".
