Michael Mantler is the forbiddingly cerebral Austrian composer and trumpeter who with his then-partner Carla Bley formed the revolutionary Jazz Composers Orchestra in 1960s New York before creating meisterwerks for an international prog/jazz elite.

On this album, JCO regular Roswell Rudd joins Pink Floyd's Nick Mason and other guests with a Berlin chamber orchestra on seven intricately worked concerti that repay repeated listening. Don't expect to dance.
