Album: Frank Sinatra & Count Basie, Complete Reprise Studio Recordings (Universal)

Two albums from the early 1960s pitching the most hellaciously swinging big band of the 20th century in with pop's first Apollo, the first session arranged and conducted by Neal Hefti, the second by Quincy Jones.

What's not to like? Well, you might claim that neither institution was in the first bloom of youth, and that neither session contains the subtlety and lightness which characterised the best of the Nelson Riddle stuff. But hell's bells, they swing like the clappers.
