Morrissey not dropped from record label

There’s just no escaping Morrissey. Despite reports last week that The Smiths frontman had been dropped from his record label, he’s still got one album left on his contract.

A statement appeared on the “Suedehead” singer’s fan website True To You explaining that Harvest Records boss Steve Barnett had “directed” the decision to part company with him.

But Harvest are now suggesting otherwise, with a representative telling Billboard that Morrissey still owes them another release, three weeks after World Peace Is None Of Your Business hit stores.

Earlier this month, Morrissey published a post criticising Harvest’s promotion of his latest album, which reached number two in the UK album charts.

“Please understand that the pop or rock industry can be as dedicated to perpetuating public deception as the world of politics itself,” he wrote. “God bless social media!”

Morrissey, 55, has claimed that TV stations around the world are snubbing him despite his continuing commercial success.

“It is 30 years on since The Smiths album entered the UK chart at number two with zero airplay and zero promotion, and the struggle for the airwaves remains difficult,” he said in another online rant.

As ever, Morrissey remains one of the most outspoken musicians, having shared his desire to gas chef Jamie Oliver and pledged his support of Scottish independence in recent weeks.
