Paul McCartney responds to Glastonbury 2020 headline rumours

Paul McCartney has commented on rumours that he could headline next year’s Glastonbury.

In 2020, the Somerset festival will celebrate its 50th anniversary, and many are expecting Michael and Emily Eavis to assemble its greatest lineup yet.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, he said: “People are saying that it will be good if I did it, so I’m starting to think about whether I can or whether it would be a good thing.

“My kids are saying ‘Dad, we’ve got to talk about Glastonbury’ and I think I know what they mean,” he added.

McCartney last played the festival in 2004. According to reports, the former Beatle was set to headline earlier this summer, but was forced to withdraw due to a clash in his schedule.

“We played there quite a long time ago so maybe it is time to go back,” he said, adding: ”I don’t know. I’d have to put a few things in place – it’s starting to become some remote kind of possibility. It’s definitely not fixed yet but people are starting to talk about it.”

This year’s festival was headlined by Stormzy, The Killers and The Cure with Kylie Minogue performing the coveted Legends slot.
