Sir: Amazing assumptions are reported in your story. You report that it will cost pounds 188m to bridge the pay gap in our universities and colleges by bringing women into line with men. Just as likely is the alternative proposition that there is an average overpayment of men and thereby a potential saving of pounds 188m.
