Sir: Why should Prince Charles give up his job in order to marry (letter, 20 November) when the only reason he cannot marry is because his mother will not allow him to? Unfortunately for him his mother has an eighteenth-century law (which incidentally contravenes the European Convention on Human Rights) to help her prevent him.
