Letter: In Brief

Sir:David Harvey (letter, 5 October), arguing for electoral reform, dismisses the idea of people relating to their own MP, saying that MPs are just "lobby fodder". He misinterprets the relationship that people want with their MP. It is not for influencing the Government in major changes of policy, but for getting help in many minor, but locally important, matters. Help is often needed on road safety, on health worries and education in the local area, and a good MP can do much for all the constituents, regardless of their political persuasion.
