Sir: Most sensible people will applaud Mr Dobson's emphasis on reducing hospital waiting lists , but I defy anyone to improve upon our recent experience in Oxford. My wife suffered a partial paralysis last Wednesday, was admitted to the Radcliffe Infirmary on Thursday, where she had a scan which confirmed a "slipped disc". The surgeon operated on Friday morning.

By Monday afternoon Jenny was back home and rushing around on her Zimmer frame. Beat that! Anywhere in the world. The NHS seems to be safe in these hands.
