Stephen Rea plays one of the most bizarre roles of his career in Stuart Gordon's low-budget curio.

He's a vagrant who gets knocked over by a nurse (Mena Suvari) when her car loses control; he ends up stuck halfway through her windscreen and she leaves him in her garage overnight, hoping he'll snuff it. But when the accident victim proves hardier than expected, a macabre black comedy evolves from Rea's desperate efforts to extricate himself from the car – and her efforts to hush up the calamity. That it's based on a true story is astonishing; her callousness would be outrageous in any circumstances, but the fact she's a qualified nurse makes it only more so. The look of the film is seedy, but its sheer unlikeliness becomes weirdly compelling.
