DVD: Romantics Anonymous (12)

"I have no problem with women, they terrify me, that's all," explains Benoît Poelvoorde's neurotic chocolate factory owner, Jean-René Van Den Hugde, to his shrink in this flimsy French romantic comedy.

This painfully shy man has just recruited a new employee, the equally overanxious Angélique (Isabelle Carré), who also happens to be one of the world's finest chocolatiers. She relates her various anxieties and foibles to a small circle of hopeless romantics. Jean-Pierre Améris's saccharine effort is presumably attempting to ape the cutesiness of Amélie or Chocolat, but it criminally lacks wit, depth or plot.
