DVD: Potiche (15)

If your only impression of Ozon's kitsch sitcom comes from the Orange ads running in multiplexes, please give it another chance.

While the image of Catherine Deneuve's "trophy wife" disco dancing with rotund Gérard Depardieu is its most indelible, the overall confection revels in its 1970s pastiche and non-PC comedy of manners. When Deneuve's chauvinist hubby Fabrice Luchini is taken ill she is forced to take over the running of the family umbrella-factory, turning to Depardieu's lefty mayor ex-lover for some political heft. Ozon's adaptation of the popular French play may be a bit glib but it certainly entertains.
