Mixing vérité with melodrama, Agnès Varda's classic follows comely chanteuse Cleo as she spends two hours (from five to seven) moping round town while awaiting the results of a medical test, until a meeting with a young soldier gives her a new perspective.
Providing a paean to 1960s Paris as much as a measure of vain, capricious Cleo, Varda enchants with her technical virtuosity, and offers a giggle with a film-within-a-film.
