Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are shockingly good in this heart-breaking indie drama about the beginning and end of a relationship.
Cutting between two time periods, the film shows the pair as flirty young lovers who have more twinkly charm than a dozen rom-coms, but also as an irritable married couple who can no longer keep their frustrations in check. Very few films feature such a believable, rounded relationship.
