One of the more unusual music events taking place this summer is at this popular museum of ethnicity in south London. As well as being a showcase for "non-mainstream" artists, the fifth festival of World Music and Dance is a chance for the public to try their hand at a number of unusual skills. After sitting back to enjoy a programme of performances of Turkish dance, the Brazilian fighting art of capoeira, sacred songs from Tibetan monks, and Afro-Cuban chanting, you can have a go at some of the more esoteric arts yourself in one of the workshops. There is also a dedicated workshop for children and families, and all of the activities are free.

Horniman Museum and Gardens, 100 London Road, London SE23 (0181-699 1872) today to 4 Jul
