CLASSICAL MUSIC / Upbeat: Heading north

LAST year brought a focus of Icelandic culture to Scotland; now the Scots are taking their revenge. This doubtless is not the word for the music in the Scottish Contemporary Arts Festival which takes place this month and next in Reykjavik. Fourteen out of 18 concerts feature Scottish contemporary music, including orchestral works by Sally Beamish - the world premiere of a symphony - and William Sweeney; James Clapperton performs piano works, and the Paragon Ensemble puts on what is claimed to be Iceland's first-ever music education project. But a week of Scottish cuisine? Let's hope prejudices are confounded.
