The harmless cartoons being sketched by the rotund figure on page 6 would eventually give millions the shivers. Like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Ridley Scott, Alfred Hitchcock "was a notorious planner who would not do anything if it had not been accurately previsualised." This book tells you how to get down the essence of a film - including such options as the travelling shot (Easy Rider), high-angle shot (Groundhog Day) and canted-angle shot (The Third Man) - for no more than the cost of a pad and pencil. Would-be Tarantinos are even told how to dress for the big pitch: "casual but smart".
