Architecture Update: Retreat on courses

THE Government has backed down in its 10-year attempt to reduce the length of architecture courses from five years to four. In a recent letter to Dr Frank Duffy, president of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Tim Boswell, under-secretary for further and higher education, said he accepted the need for five-year courses. The Government had hoped to cut the cost of educating architects.
