BRITAIN'S architects are to be deregulated. Sir George Young, Minister of State for the Environment, has decided to abolish the legal title surrounding the use of the name 'architect' in legislation planned for next year. Anyone will be able to call themselves an architect if they offer a building service. The Architects Registration Council of Great Britain, which keeps a register of all qualified architects, will be abolished. Sir George told the Commons: 'There is no reason why architects, uniquely among the construction professions, should be regulated by statute.'
