Exhibition of the week: Rembrandt and His Contemporaries: Paintings from the Royal Collection, Holburne Museum, Bath

There are just two dozen works in this superb exhibition, but each is top notch.

The works cover nearly the full range of Dutch art in the mid-17th century – seascapes, interiors, landscapes, still lifes, scenes of merriment and of domestic intrigue – and are by the finest artists of the day.

The Rembrandts are worth the price of admission and Rubens' The Assumption of the Virgin is bravura. But the other works on display don't pall because they are so different in spirit. David Teniers, Jacob van Ruisdael, Gerrit Dou and Pieter de Hooch also feature in an exhibition of pure pleasure.
