I HAD NOT realised that the United Synagogue was near musical and financial bankruptcy to add to its moral bankruptcy (''Listen to the cantors' lament as synagogue attendance falls'', 20 November).

May I suggest that, instead of foisting upon an unwilling community in Barnet, the fatuous eruv that has already cost it dear in goodwill and will cost it dear in construction, it spends the money on preserving its splendid musical heritage?
